Bertuca confirms his form at Lonato
Cristian Bertuca confirmed his place among the best KZ2 drivers of the moment this weekend. The first round of the WSK Final Cup at Lonato gave him the opportunity to play a leading role against some 50 rivals. He led for most of the meeting before losing out by 1.5 tenths in a superb Final duel. The competitiveness of the Birel ART / TM Racing karts in this category began with pole position for Racing Line's Artem Severiukhin on Friday.
"We're delighted to have put in such strong performances at Lonato, while we're already looking ahead to next season," explained Riccardo Longhi, team manager of Birel ART Racing. "At this time of year, we are very busy developing our equipment and preparing the team for 2024. In this respect, the Junior drivers were not favoured during the weekend, but the training process is a long one. Cristian Bertuca fulfilled his mission perfectly in KZ2 with a string of victories. Matheus Morgatto made a fine comeback during the OK Qualifying Heats. He showed a strong capacity to progress right through to the Final, where a retirement brought his event to a premature end.
"Our satellite team Leclerc by Lennox Racing enabled its driver Ean Eyckmans to show off the potential of our chassis in OK by constantly battling at the front with a 4th place in the Final along with the fastest lap in the race. In OK-Junior, Mees Houben also proved to be very fast, setting the 2nd fastest time in the Final. A collision and a spoiler penalty deprived him of a probable top 10 finish."
The intense work phase for the Birel ART Racing Team will continue next weekend at Franciacorta for the second and final round of the WSK Final Cup.
