Two titles for Birel ART/KMS in the BNL Karting Series

In the closing act of the BNL Karting Series in Genk, Belgium, Birel ART/KMS, Birel ART’s Official Rotax Team, conquered two championship titles, in Max Senior with Oliver Askew and in DD2 with Ferenc Kancsar.

In Max Senior, Oliver Askew secured the win with a triumphant victory on Saturday and a second place finish on Sunday. In Final 1, the USA driver dashed from ninth on grid to first place by lap 4 and from there kept the lead until the checkerd flag. After he got the pole position and he won both Manches on Sunday, in Final 2 Askew led the first laps of the race and then closed second, despite the difficult conditions of the track due to the rain. Genk also marked the class debut with Birel ART/KMS for Abdullah Al Rawahi: in contention for the top 10 since qualifying practice, unfortunately Al Rawahi was unable to concretize his potential due to several contacts that forced him to withdraw from Satuday’s Final and to close twenty-first on Sunday.

In DD2, the team secured the title with Ferenc Kancsar thanks to a nice set of race results: two wins, second and ninth. On Saturday, Ferenc won Final 1 and placed second in Final 2, besides scoring the best lap in both races. On Sunday, in Final 1, Kancsar rose from twenty-first on grid to ninth at the finish and in Final 2, he secured his second weekend  victory and again set the best lap. In DD2 the team also lined up Sanad Al Rawahi: at his debut, Al Rawahi was standing fourth best overall after qualifyings and continued to contend the top spots until the Finals on Saturday, placing eighth and sixth.

The team battled for the top spots all weekend also in DD2 Masters with the competitive trio of Christophe Adams, Geza Fodor, and Hussain Umid Ali, with Adams placing his Birel ART in first place in Sunday’s Final 2, giving to the Team another success.

The Belgian weekend also marked the team debut of Mohamed Al Habsi (Micro) and Sihad Al Habsi (Mini), both of whom gave a tough battle for the podium. On Saturday, Mohamed managed to make the podium in Final 1, then closed right below it (fourth) in Final 2, after leading for some laps. A number of contacts, instead, forced Sihad to recover from the rear of the group more than once; even so, he proved his competitive edge with some nice overtakes.

Peter Kalman, KMS Team Principal: “Birel ART’s Official Rotax Team attended the Genk weekend with as many as ten drivers and proved to be one of the strongest forces in all classes. We are very happy of our title victory in Senior and DD2, because it proves that our performance standards are always top-notch, thanks to the competitive edge of Birel ART chassis and the constant work of development we carry forth with GKS.”
