Ricciardo Kart unlucky in Round 2 of the Europeans in Zuera

The second round of the CIK-FIA European KZ Championship in Zuera proved to be a weekend of misfortune for Ricciardo Kart.

After tough Qualifyings and Heats, Mirko Torsellini bounced back for the main phase, showing his competitive edge: in the Prefinal, he rose quickly and made some nice overtakes top close eighth and in the Final he confirmed his fast pace, repeating the top-end result. After the race Torsellini was handed a 30 second penalty for incorrect positioning of his front fairing and relegated to place eighteen.

The weekend was tough also for Rick Dreezen. After difficult qualifyings, a mid-field starting position in the Heats made it hard for him to express the full potential of his Ricciardo Kart. Then, in the Prefinal, a lap-1 accident forced him to retire soon after and in the Final a rear-field start saw him again victim to several contacts that made him quit on lap 12 .

Mirko Torsellini, #10: “What an unlucky weekend! The Heats were really tough, then we finally found the speed we needed and managed to place on the high end in the final phase. The spoiler penalty is a real shame too, we’d made the top 8! Considering how well we did in Prefinal and Final, I feel confident for the last championship round in  Genk.”

Rick Dreezen, #1: “We struggled at the start of the Zuera weekend and this conditioned our entire race down to the final. It’s always tough to get back up front, when you start from the rear. We didn’t make a good result, but I am confident of our material’s competitive potential, considering how well Lennox-Lamb did with Birel ART. In Genk we have to manage to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together.”

Gianluca Beggio, General Manager: “The Zuera weekend was a tough one for Ricciardo Kart, but we managed to be competitive in the main phase, with Torsellini placing eighth in both the Prefinal and the Final. Unfortunately, Dreezen met bad luck again. Without contacts, we’re sure he would have made the top 10.”
