In the closing round of the KZ Europeans in Genk, Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo’s Factory Team proved to be one of the most competitive forces on track.
Rick Dreezen gave a great performance for his home fans. Eighth on grid at the start of the Final, by the end of lap one he was already up to fifth and by the end of the second lap -after some overtakes- he was second, just 1”6 from the leader. Dreezen then put in a sequence of fast laps and reduced the gap to 4 tenths, fighting for victory until the chequered flag. Unfortunately, at the end of the race, Rick was handed a 30 seconds penalty for an unhooked front bumper, which had come undone after contact with a competitor.
Rick Dreezen, #1: “I am very happy of what we achieved, penalty aside. There are still some scenarios in which we have technical issues, but we need to make the most out of every session, like we did in the Genk final. We had a rough start of the championship, but I want to thank the Team for their support and trust.”
Gianluca Beggio, General Manager: “It was a tough weekend and we had some trouble finding the right set-up. Then, fortunately we struck a good compromise for the Final and this allowed Dreezen to cross the finish-line as the runner up.”
Next event: World KZ Championship & International KZ2 Super Cup, 11-13 September – Le Mans (France)
