Birel ART wins at its debut in Germany's DKM

Birel ART/Paauwer Kart Racing dominated the opening round of Germany’s DKM Championship held in Wackersdorf last weekend, with a great Race 2 victory by Menno Paauwe in the DSKM (KZ2) category: third on grid, Menno charged his way to the forefront and closed the race in first place.

Menno also proved his team’s competitive edge and fast speed also in Race 1, on a wet track: thirty-second on grid due to a glitch that compromised his qualifying and heat results, from here Menno achieved a phenomenal climb up the field and closed third under the flag, just two tenths from second place.

Even if changing weather conditions conspired to compromise final results, KSW Birel ART Austria also gave a great performance. Ricardo Romkema rounded off the Top 5  of Race 1, before contacts relegated him to eighteenth in Race 2. Kevin Pieruszek proved he had what it takes with his fourth and ninth place finishes in the heats, before dropping to nineteenth in Race 1 and twenty-fifth in Race 2.

In the DJKM (KFJ) category, Birel ART/Solgat Motorsport proved to be on top “rain or shine” with Luke Wankmüller: after the second and the thirteenth place in the heats, he finished eighth in Race 1 on a wet track, and fourth -just one second off from victory- in Race 2 on the dry.

Menno Paauwe, #225: “I am very happy of my DKM championship debut. We were competitive since free practice, wet or dry. Shame for the technical glitch that compromised my qualifying and heat result. The chassis and engine were great in the rain in Race 1, where I managed to make several great overtakes and rose all the way to third. And even better on the dry in Race 2, allowing us to get the victory. I hope to keep up these results in the next rounds too!”
