Birel ART competitives at the WSK Super Master Series in Muro Leccese

Birel ART once again showed its competitive edge on the third round of the WSK Super Master Series held in Muro Leccese from April 10th - 12th. Although several race contacts conditioned final results, the team again proved it is a force to be reckoned with, both on the long haul and on the single stint.

In KFJ the Birel ART Racing Team closed the Final in fourth place with Ulysse De Pauw. The Belgian kept an excellent pace all race long and crossed the line just a little over two tenths from the winner and a few thousandths from the podium. In normal track conditions, Birel ART and De Pauw were also able to prove their competitive force in every other session: pole position in qualifying group 2, twice second and twice third in the heats, and victory in Prefinal 1. In KFJ, the team also gave a top performance with Lucas Légeret. Although a contact on the very last lap of the Final forced him to withdraw as he was running ninth, the Swiss fought up front all weekend long: fifth in his qualifying session, in the Top 10 zone throughout the heats (twice eighth and once eleventh), and sixth in the Prefinal.

Tom Leuillet’s weekend, instead, was conditioned by his initial timed placement, which kept him from expressing the full potential of his chassis in the heats. In the Prefinal, Tom bounced back and managed an impressive recovery from twenty-fifth to eighteenth, but unfortunately he came in a few tenths shy of qualifying for the Final. French driver Timothy Peisselon also spent the weekend running uphill, but with greater success: he started the heats from the rear of the grid and charged his way far enough to conquer a pass for the main phase: sixteenth in his Prefinal and twenty-fourth in the Final.

In the KZ2 both Jordon Lennox-Lamb and Marijn Kremers gave competitors heat all weekend, but then saw their end result compromised by race contacts. Jordon was forced to withdraw from the Final on the first bend of lap one, while his Dutch teammate had to abandon the battle for the top spots on lap eleven. Sadly, their final placements didn’t reflect the competitive advantage that the Birel ART Racing Team had all weekend long. In fact, after scoring the second best time overall with Jordon, the team also placed twice third and ninth in the heats, and closed fouth overall in the Prefinal.

Gianluca Beggio, Birel ART General Manager: “Birel ART performed very well in Muro Leccese. Unfortunately, our final results were conditioned by misfortunate incidents and don’t do justice to the great racing we put in across this third round. The good thing is that our chassis keep performing better than ever race after race, so I am looking forward to the final act of the WSK Series and our debut in the CIK-FIA Europeans.”

Next event: CIK-FIA European Championship, Sarno, April 16-19.

Next WSK Super Master round: Sarno, April 24-26.
